Frequently Asked Questions
Your Parentaly Expert is an ICF-certified career coach who has also supported hundreds of other new parents through parental leave. They will customize your time together based on your specific needs, as well as their expertise in this space. They know the “watch outs” and the examples of what works in different situations - and they’re here to set you up for success!
Get started as soon as you can! We recommend that you begin at least 3 months before you plan to start your leave, however we welcome you to join at any point in your leave transition (including when you’re returning to work). We’ll guide you through the exact timing for each step after we have your information, so don’t worry about signing up too early or too late. No better time than the present!
This support is paid for by GitLab through your G&D fund! GitLab is paying for this because they want to ensure business continuity, reduce overwhelm for you and your coworkers, and support your experience as an expecting and new parent. This is truly a win-win-win for everyone involved (you, your coworkers and your company).
Once you sign up, please complete this G&D issue template so GitLab can process the fund allocation for your registration.
No! In fact - 40% of our program participants are non-birthing parents, and feedback is glowing across all parent types regardless of how they expanded their family (adoption, surrogacy, birthing, non-birthing with a birthing partner). This support was intentionally designed to support any person going on parental leave via strong coverage planning and re-onboarding support.
Yes! We can review your plan and give you tips to improve it, as well as talk through the transition details you may not have top of mind (shadow sessions, client or vendor intros, performance reviews, work tracking, etc.). If you don’t need to meet with a Parentaly Expert, you can benefit from leveraging our checklist and templates to guide your experience asynchronously.
Your time commitment depends on your goals, your workload, and how much support you want. Some people move quickly with light-touch guidance, while others choose to invest more time because they find the resources valuable. Everything is flexible to your schedule, and you can mix self-guided work with expert-led support as needed!
